Mini BVLOS Drone

• Engineered a novel, sub-250g, beyond-visual-line-of-sight drone prototype to aid in remote police surveillance in indoor disaster sites without the need for sending personnel into dangerous areas.

• Iterated over multiple designs to improve stiffness and reduce mass of drone body to meet the required specifications.

• Evaluated propeller and motor combinations using RCbenchmark to maximize battery power while maintaining a flight time of 20 minutes.

• Designed a unique heatsink that extended outside of the drone body to utilize downwash in cooling the electronics.

• Customized ModalAI sensors and internal electronics to allow drone to accurately fly using a mobile gaming controller configured to QGroundControl.

• Devised an Excel VBA script for a safety distance report when conducting tethered UAV test flights to minimize risks towards personnel.

• Oversaw on-site testing of tethered UAVs, counter UAV radars and coastal surveillance UAVs.
